A Queen’s Meeting: Remembering and Reclaiming Our Royal Roots

Our 2023 Queen’s Meeting brought together women across generations for a morning rooted in culture, connection, and care. From the opening prayer and libation led by Dr. Danielle Osonduagwuike, the tone was clear—this was more than just an event. It was a space to honor where we’ve come from and to affirm who we are becoming.

Over brunch and mimosas, guests moved through laughter, conversation, and moments of reflection. Dr. Ballard’s Zumba session had the room moving—reminding us that joy is resistance, and movement is medicine.

One of the most powerful moments came with the Queen’s Mantra, written by Sheba Jennings and delivered by her mother, Dina Walker. It was a reminder of what it means to stand in your truth and pass that power on.

Our keynote address was delivered by our Executive Director, Dr. Ayanna Balogun-Ibrahim, whose words centered on identity, legacy, and leadership. She reminded us to honor our roots while walking boldly in the purpose we’ve been called to.

We also introduced the Inland Empire Black Women’s Collective, a growing network of women building support and infrastructure for generations to come.

This year’s Queens of the Community—Dr. Paulette Brown-Hinds, Vicki Davis, and Dr. Torie Weston-Serdan—were honored for their decades of dedication, leadership, and service. Their impact is deep, and their presence grounded the room in real legacy.

We closed with a prayer from Prophetess La Quetta Bush-Simmons, holding space for gratitude, clarity, and next steps.
