Our 2025 theme celebrates the interconnected legacy of honoring our elders while empowering rising leaders. As part of our annual fundraiser, we are proud to crown three Queens of the Community, each representing a unique generation: past, present, and future. This tradition highlights the invaluable contributions of each generation and inspires continued community impact.

We draw inspiration from the powerful legacy of honoring elders and nurturing future leaders. Influenced by the traditions observed in Ghana, it pays tribute to the queens who have built our communities while empowering the next generation to continue their impactful work.

Queens of the Community
A Queen of the Community (QOC) understands their assignment. They understand that the “work” they do, is not “work” at all. They have an understanding with the creator about their appointment and anointing. They don’t do this work because they are looking for a human “thank you”. They embody a boldness that (re)claims their Royal purpose. A QOC carries a spirit of “knowing”, “growing” and “healing” as they make others whole around them. As they walk with fierceness, they simultaneously demonstrate humility. Despite what others said was not humanly possible, they all are testament to what we can do if we are obedient to a higher power.
Moreover, even though they are mothers, sisters, daughters, wives, God moms and mentors, a QOC (re)members that they are also their ancestors and their grandchildren. They live in the present but are always focused on the limitless possibilities of a liberated future for themselves, their families and their community. In many West African traditions, Queens who are privileged and called to serve are adorned with special beads for identification, protection and authority. As we recognize these women who have taken on their community purpose wholeheartedly, we have a ceremony to coronate and commemorate their gifts and legacy to the world.
